Music is a GPS to the soul
Show Notes Transcript

When I arrived in Nashville, TN.  I had no idea that Music would play such a significant role in my journey. It all started when a newfound friend introduced me to her music and things started to happen that were of a spiritual nature; These events gave me pause, and I found myself always searching for answers.

However, while on this amazing spiritual journey photography connected me with some amazing talented souls. But when I looking back I found that music was the primer that opened the window to my soul, and lyrics seem to touch my heart like never before. Songs seemed to bring forth emotions that had grown dormant.   This episode will include just a few highlights of the events. I truly feel music was a gateway to what was to come.

Creations by Lori photography is the name of my company. But I soon after I arrived in Tennessee I spun off a New website called Music City Photography.  Some of the images I captured can be found in the link below.

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,. (Eph. 5:19)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and counsel one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God (Col. 3:16).

:

Hi, this is Lori. Welcome back. I'm so happy that you could join me again today, but I'm really excited that you're becoming a part of my journey. The last episode left off when we were at a lantern lighting in Kentucky, where we had a spiritual moment with my sister. So before we get started, grab that cup of coffee, a comfortable chair, and let's share this time. Things seem to be picking up in Tennessee. I was feeling very stagnant when I got here, but things were starting to happen. My friend and I were still busy doing life. She was busy chasing her dreams in the music industry. And I was out there chasing mine in the photography world. One day I called her and she seemed a little down and she was missing her family. And I said, let's go do something fun. So we decided to go to downtown Nashville and explore this new city we both had moved to. We got to Broadway, we parked our car and we hopped on the Old town trolley. We decided we were going to take every opportunity at every stop and take photos. It was such a fun day and she was just a natural in front of the camera. So we had a great time. As days went by, we started meeting a lot of people in the area and a lot of doors started opening for us. She was asked to play many venues, Belcourt Taps, The Basement, Douglas Corner, just to name a few. And I would always go and take photos and I would give her the photos and say, send them to your mom and tell her you're okay. Meanwhile, I was still spending a lot of time with my family, but also I was starting to get calls for photography in the local area.

I met a wonderful young artist by the name of Alexa Shea, and we agreed to do a photo shoot. Now being new to the area, exploring new locations is also a challenge, but we found a wonderful spot by the name of Harlinsdale Farms in Franklin, Tennessee. It's a 200 acre farm with the most picturesque entrance you've ever seen. The location was amazing. And I didn't even realize it at the time, but it's on the historical registry as well. And they used to have walking horses there at one time. The grounds were really very well groomed. And when you pull in, there is a road that leads you into the location. And it's got a white picket fence on each side of the road that leads you into an opening. And it opens up into this big, beautiful white barn. It was amazing. I couldn't have picked a better spot. It had everything we needed for this particular shoot. And then I saw Alexa arriving and she parked her car and stepped out and she was gorgeous. And I knew this was going to be a great day. We made some informal introductions and we started to work. She was just a natural and made the day go so easy. I have found that always brings a uniqueness to the shoot and they always bring this creativity that I love bouncing off of. It's an amazing time for me. Everything went as planned. Actually it went better than I had hoped for. She's a beautiful soul and I still stay in contact with her. At this point, it seemed like things were settling in. I was making contacts here in Nashville. My friend was also doing the same. My family was acclimating to the area and life in general seemed to be on the right track. As the days went on, I met a gentleman by the name of Shawn Carnes. He's President of Nu-Management. He represents several artists in the area. I found I love collaborating with his team. The artists were uniquely special. They all were very talented and they were so welcoming. So my days now were filled with photography, music, artist, family. And I finally felt like I could say Nashville was home. As I looked around, I saw all the people that I've been in contact with just doing life in Tennessee. And then one day I got an exciting call. Shawn told me that one of my photos made Billboard Magazine and that was exciting news. Now I have had my images on other magazines, even on the cover, but being in billboard at this time was very special to me because it seemed like music was becoming a part of my daily life here in Nashville. And now I found ourselves ushering in summer and my family had made reservations in Hilton, Head, South Carolina at the beach. I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be here for the CMA awards, but I was so looking forward to going to the beach with my family. I miss the beach, a Florida girl, all her life. And you tell me there's a beach. I'm there. I had spoken to my friend and she told me she was going to the CMA awards. And I thought, Oh, I wish I could clone myself. I'd like to be in two places this week. Does that ever happen to you? We were in Hilton head about two days when I received a call and asked if I could come back and shoot an artist at the CMA awards. Of course I was very excited. I had seen the beach and I kind of checked it out with my family. And they said, it's a great opportunity, get on a plane. And so I did, once I landed, I connected with my friend and we got an uber and we went straight to Broadway and the place was crazy crawling with people. There was an excitement in the air and music everywhere. I was supposed to shoot the Maggie Rose show. So we headed over there to the stage and they were already on stage and they were starting to warm up and starting to perform. And What a great show I captured the images. And then we were on our way. We went to the other stage to see Claire Dunn. She's one of my friend's favorite performers. So she just couldn't sit still. She was dancing in her seat what a great time. She had her guitar going and her hair flying and she put on a fabulous show. Now it was beginning to get dark, but I was also invited to shoot some of the artists at the Hard Rock. So we made our way over there. While we were walking, I ran into my friend, Shawn. We said our hellos and we kept going the hard rock. I see a lot of familiar faces. They're all affiliated with my son-in-law's studio Oak Hallow. They invited me to stand on stage and take the photos of the artist. It was an amazing moment b ecause I could actually see the a rtist perform and see the passion that they have. But yet I could see the audience and their faces and how connected they were to the music. The artists that played that stage. That night w ere Luker, Peter K eyes and Yellow Wolf. They were all amazing. And the audience was so connected to what they were doing. The music ended. The event came to a close. We caught an Uber and made our way home. The reason I share these highlights with you on this particular episode is because something bigger is coming on the next one, but music has played such a significant part in my journey. Before I arrived in Nashville, I might've had 10 songs on my phone. I now have over 300 and I admit my tastes in music is not specific to any one genre. I say, I listen to music that speaks to my soul. If you're like me, one song can move you to tears, warm your heart and flood your memories and open your soul. Just one song can bring emotions rushing forward. As you listen, you'll be whisked away and long for those places, and people that maybe are gone. Music enhances life. Although I didn't state it during these highlights, there were still a lot of significant things happening between my friend and I, that I would consider spiritual. So we did like everyone else. We Googled it. When things happen that we can't explain, do we just say, Oh, that's a coincidence. Or do we really truly look at it and investigate it and know that there's possibly something more. I want to invite you the listener to come back next week because I truly have an amazing guest. That's going to make an appearance. Because I will admit when I met him, he blew me away. Thank you for listening. I hope you enjoyed our time together as much as I have. Wishing you an amazing week this week filled with abundant love. This is Lori signing off.
